Hello, I lost all of my bookmarks in Firefox from a big error on my part. I really need these back. I think they are in a file named "places.sqlite" which is 5,120kb in size. How can I get the info from this file to put back in my Firefox bookmarks? Or how can I see what's in this file? Thanks for any help. Woodrow Gray

Hello,

I have tested with my own places.sqlite and it worked. If yours isn't corrupted it should work. The favicons won't be visible until you click on the bookmarks.

Make sure to make a copy of places.sqlite somewhere outside Firefox profile.

Create a new profile about:profiles Give it a name Then Open Directory with that name in about:profiles Close all Firefox instances Replace places.sqlite by the one you want to restore Restart Firefox

You can also visualize the content of your places.sqlite (the copy only not one in a profile) with the open source (free) software DB Browser for SQLite. Your bookmarks URLS are in Browse Data/Table/moz_places/url

If you have any question, let me know.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. But, I tried both suggestions and couldn't get either one to work for me. However, I did find an OLD html file and I have used that to get many of my bookmarks back. I will need to re-enter all of the names and passwords. But having a dependency on using the Firefox browser is one of those things.

I think one of my problems was that I had never used the DB Browser app so I didn't really know what I should be looking for. I thought it might be able to translate that data in the places.sqlite file to an html file. So, that's my big limitation. But, I have saved the places.sqlite file and maybe one day I will try it again.

Thank you again.
