Hi Bill, on Windows, you have the option to use a separate search bar that doesn't have the dual purpose of showing the current page address, showing URLs from history, etc. If you don't mind giving up some other space on the main toolbar, you could give it a try. See: Add the Search bar to your Firefox toolbar.

If you typically are working in a new tab, there's also an option to use the bar in the page instead of Firefox moving the cursor up into the address bar. The hardest part of making this change is learning its name:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste handoff and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar preference to switch the value from true to false

On iPhone, I'm not sure what options you have. Does Firefox for iOS work differently than Safari from iOS in how it handles partial text in the address bar?

Whoops, I missed this one:

2) i have tried many time to download my bookmarks of Chrome. After following the published procedure nothing is copied to the bookmarks this is a big issue for using Firefox.

Could you check whether these landed in an unexpected location:

Open the Bookmarks Sidebar using Ctrl+B (some pages intercept this shortcut to bold text, so make sure your cursor isn't in an editing field).

Expand the "Bookmarks Menu" category and check whether you can find an Imported from Chome folder (or other Imported Bookmarks folder) at the bottom of the list.

You also can check the "Other Bookmarks" category and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" category.

Anything there?

If not, it might be necessary to do a manual export/import.

The following article has the steps to import a "bookmarks.html" format file. As mentioned earlier, the contents of the file are likely to be in a new folder at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu due to some differences between the storage structure between Firefox and Chrome.

You can also do a search for a known bookmarks and check its parent folder.

In Firefox 96+ you can right-click a bookmark search/query/recent result list and click "Show in Folder" to locate this bookmark in the folder list.
