Update not working from HELP>ABOUT

I used to have Firefox update itself using automatic updates, and occasionally I would manually trigger an update by checking the HELP>ABOUT menu. For some time now, I am getting an error message inside the ABOUT pop-up window. The current message is "Unable to check for updates due to internal error".

I've un-installed and re-installed several times. It doesn't happen on other computers I own where updates work just fine.

I tried searching, but couldn't find anything relevant

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks !

For users, it is best to leave automatic updates on, and also for Firefox itself, because they can make sure that users are up to date and do not have any problems with bugs. As far as I understand it, you intentionally turned off the "automatic update" feature or manually bypassed it, but the sign "Unable to check for updates due to internal error" does not mean that you are doing manual updates but that YOUR Firefox has an internal problem like a virus or just a small bug.

I am also getting the message: "Unable to check for updates due to internal error". Your reply is "YOUR Firefox has an internal problem like a virus or just a small bug." I've had Norton anti-virus and Malwarebytes for years. So, how do I check for a possible virus in FireFox or this "small bug" you mention? And, if I find something, how do I correct it (I just downloaded FF version 111.0 - 64bit). Thanks!
