Folders gone. Tried some fixes cannot figure it out.
Hi...Since this last update, I have lost all my subfolders. I found them, I cannot remember where and tried copying them into different folders and rebooting Thunderbird but they are still missing from the left pane. Adding to my confusion is that now I have both a pop3 account and an IMAP account showing...I am wondering if someone can offer a simple solution to this problem. I have looked on the forums, but some of the solutions confuse me. So the simpler the better, if possible. Thank you so much. T.

The Mail/smart mailboxes folder exists only when the Unified View is applied. I don't think this folder contains the actual mail folders, but in any case if you find an mbox file there or in any subfolder of Mail, you can copy them into Mail/Local Folders in the profile, while TB is closed. An mbox file is a (large) file with no extension, named after a folder, and accompanied by a like-named .msf file.

POP accounts only download the Inbox and Trash, while IMAP accounts download (sync.) all folders. Right-click the IMAP account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe..., Refresh, and see if the missing folders can be checked (subscribed).
Thank you for your reply.
I tried, but the subfolders are not there...so nothing happened when I hit refresh. I do see my subfolders somewhere, but I cannot get them where they need to be in order to be recognized by thunderbird. Should I just delete the POP2 account and stay with the IMAP account?
Are the folders visible in webmail? Where is 'somewhere' for the subfolders? If the subfolders are IMAP folders, not local subfolders of the POP account, you can remove the POP account. If in doubt about any folders, copy them to Local Folders before removing accounts.
Thank you. I copied the files to Local Folders...I also have them in a folder called Local Folders-1 which just was there. I also tried copying the files into other folders...but I can't remember where exactly...so they are now all over. I was hoping that when I copied the files to different folders they would just appear when I restarted Thunderbird. I apologize as I really do not know what I am doing.
It's difficult to untangle your situation through a forum like this. You might be reluctant to do it, but I recommend creating a new profile in TB, adding your accounts as IMAP, and subscribing to the relevant IMAP folders. The current profile is unaffected, and if the new profile works properly, local mail and address books from the old profile can be transferred to the new one. This will probably save hours or days of trying to reconcile the existing setup. Help/More Troubleshooting, about:profiles, to create and launch profiles.
Thank you....I did as you suggested....I found my folders again....and they are in a folder called smart mailboxes...so maybe they are not sub folders...? But smart mailboxes? Not sure. But even when I created the profile I did not find a way to bring them back in...I will keep trying to figure it out. They are there..but I cannot import them. THANK YOU for your patience, I am trying to learn as best I can. Best. Tracy.
