In the past, I have not had problems logging into PayPal via Firefox on Windows.

Today, I can get to www.paypal.com but when I try to log in (takes me to https://www.paypal.com/us/signin), my browser window just shows the circling image.

When I tried another browser (Chrome) I got to the login just fine. My Firefox is up to date (105.0.3)

What changed to give this issue and how can one resolve it?

When I click on login, it takes me to this page. see screenshot https://www.paypal.com/signin

Can you get to this page? Did you try Firefox in Safe Mode? Did you clear your browser cache? Try the option Forget About This Site, but make sure you know the password. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remove-websites-address-bar-suggestions

You can check for issues with Total Cookie Protection.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console for relevant-looking messages about blocked content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Hello cor-el, I appreciate your efforts to try to help, but I don't think a user like me should have to go through all you said just to get a very commonly used site, PayPal.com, to work again on Firefox, when it works fine now on Chrome and on Edge.

jonzn4SUSE, thank you for your reply. Yes, I can get to https://www.paypal.com/signin - this link used to work fine before, it hangs up.

I did not try Firefox in Safe Mode and I did not clear my browser cache. I don't believe I should have to do all this when the link works fine on Chrome and on Edge.

So, I went to the Cache and just removed the content for PayPal.com, and this seems to have solved the problem.
