lot of good ideas. I need to check the help pages more thoroughly next time I encounter a problem. The add-ons are still behaving so I will try that next time.
A small detail regarding this problem. I noticed, when I disable an add-on, it, sort of, jumps to the disable section of the add-ons page (below the active ones). When there is this particular problem, after disabling an add-on (sliding the button to the left) the button grays out, but the add-on does not move, stays in the active section. After about 5 second the slide switch moves back to the right and turns blue.

I marked your solution as a chosen solution. The problem arose again. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact sequence of my steps, but basically what I did was to rename the json file to OLD and also the compatibility to OLD. I also renamed the extensions folder to OLD (not in your instructions, just for the 'fun' of it.) After each rename I restarted FF. New profile files were created. Obviously, the add-ons were gone. Then I deleted the newly created files renamed the OLD files back (removed the OLD part). After each rename I started FF. Now the extension are behaving again. Let's see how long it lasts.

thank you very much for another suggestion. I hope I won't have to use any of them but when I do, I will try them all. I have had these add-ons for years, never experienced such an issue. I think it is related to FF updates. Thanks again,
Martin
