Can't see new messages. I cleared out all my old messages and new messages can still not be seen. They are on the server.

I re-installed Thunderbird and I still cannot see any new messages. I can read my email on my cell phone.

re : I re-installed Thunderbird Most issues are to do with the profile or your settings and rarely have anything to do with the program itself, so a reinstall is usually a fruitless exercise.

First check the Firewall because it is possible Thunderbird is not being allowed to access the internet.

Exit Thunderbird if running. Access Firewall Is Thunderbird set up as an allowed program in the Firewall ? If no then it must be set up as an allowed program. If it is already set up as allowed - let's check the Firewall has not got confused after an update - so remove Thunderbird from being allowed, block it and ok it. Then go back into Firewall and reset up Thunderbird as allowed program and ok it.

Start Thunderbird

I'm going to need to ask a load of questions because so far all I know is "new messages cannot be seen". What OS do you use eg: Windows 10, MAC, Linux ?

Does Thunderbird display the account name and folders in Folder Pane ? Does Thunderbird ask for any passwords ? Do you get any error messages ? If yes then what do they say word for word or post an image of the error.

Check you have these settings:

  • Menu icon > View > Folders > All
  • Menu icon > View > Threads > All

Do you have any filters running which could be blocking any display?

  • Check the Quick Filter Bar - are any of those icons selected ? If yes, then click on icon to remove the filter.

How many mail accounts do you have ? Are you talking about a POP or IMAP mail account ?

Menu icon > Tools > select 'Activity Manager' It should open in a new tab. What does the 'Activity Manager' say ?

Need to check what server setting you are using.

  • Menu icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • Scroll down to the 'Mail and News Accounts' section
  • Highlight all the text in that section - right click on highlighted text and select 'Copy'
  • In this forum 'Post a Reply' text box - right click and select 'Paste'
