Hello,

I bought a p.c. from Originpc.com back in 2020 and it had an option to have firefox preinstalled on the computer. Being a lazy person such as myself and thinking I would save the headache of having to install it through Microsoft Edge, I opted into having it installed. Upon booting up my computer and opening firefox, I realized that the homepage was set to originpc.com. I figured that wasn't super weird, but I changed it to google.com because I didn't want that website to be my default homepage. It worked when closing out the program from using the main exit button (the one found in the top right corner), however each time I close all of the individual windows I have open in firefox originpc.com is forced back into the default home page once I relaunch the program. For the past two years I've used an adblocker as a lazy-man's solution to this problem, however now instead of a "this website blocked" screen, I'm back at originpc.com. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, I have tried wiping my default settings for firefox multiple times, I have tried googling answers left and right but I have not found any semblance of a solution to this problem. I can't find anything in my computer's firefox files that has anything to do with Originpc. Is there anything that I can do? Or perhaps something that I am missing? Thank you for your time.

Hello, we think this is the problem with the website where you bought the computer. It tampered with your computer. I think you should seek the help of professionals and tell them that you need to reinstall your operating system, and then this problem will be solved.

Try to do a clean reinstall and download the current Firefox release from the Mozilla server as you currently might have a Firefox version branded by Originpc.

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including personal data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • it is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then you can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.
