Bookmark Manager not saving changes to name of bookmark most of the time unless I reopen Manager after change.

If I open Bookmark Manager and add some words on to the title of the bookmark it does not usually show me the changes like prior versions of Firefox did on this same machine. Even if I change the focus to another bookmark and go back to the bookmark name I did change it still shows it as the old name---75% of the time. I sometimes have to exit bookmark manager and reopen it and then the change is usually there. Same thing happens on other laptop different brand, Windows 8.1 not 10 like this 10) and same Firefox 64 bit version.

Thoughts? I can live with this now that I know it. Hmmmm

As for other programs running: Malwarebytes only and as for extensions: Ublock origin. And no other apps open. No other browsers. Plugins: Open H.264 open Codec by Cisco, Widevine Content Decryption Module by Google.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
  • you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Type https://accounts.firefox.com/settings<enter> in the address box. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.


[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address box.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

If any errors are reported: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional

The places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files contains your History and Bookmarks. And it looks like they are corrupted.

Type about:support<enter> in the address box.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox. The browser should then create a new place.sqlite and recover your bookmarks from the backup files.

Note: Your history is not backed up and will be lost.

Tx. I do not have sync on any of the devices

I can of course export The Bookmark Json file (which i do regularly) and do what you suggested and then import the bookmarks but I'm concerned about losing saved logins, passwords, exceptions, etc and any other settings. Thank you  very much,

Tried troubleshooting mode and whike in there problem still existed.

Also I think it would be odd that this is occurring on two different machines with different operating systems but the same Firefox 64-bit version. Thanks

Tried Verify database, no error, issue still exists.

But I actually do not have to close down Bookmark manager to see the changes. I have to search for the bookmark name and it will show the change. And note, does not occur on every bookmark but most of them. I have about 2584 bookmarks. All originated from Firefox. No big deal I can live with this issue.

We have seen reports of very large bookmarks files sometimes having issues.
