Firefox keeps auto generating "new bookmarks" and "new folders"
Firefox keeps auto generating "new bookmarks" and "new folders". It is generating these faster than I can delete them. It is maddening!
I like Firefox but I need to control this mess or move on.

Those are created by the Bookmarks Manager automatically. Don't delete them. If they are in your way, open the manager and move them to the bottom of the 'tree.'

Are you using Sync to sync the bookmarks as that can be a possible cause for such an issue ?

Do you mean you get bookmarks with the actual name "new bookmarks" (i.e blank bookmarks and not a real bookmark) ?
Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
