The latest version of Thunderbird (91.1.2 (64-bit)) installed yesterday. Before the installation I was able to send emails on all my accounts. After the installation I cannot send emails on any of the accounts.

When I reply to an email, the send button is greyed out. When I make a new email and click on send nothing happens. I can still receive emails. There are no messages that I am doing anything wrong.

I have four separate accounts, each with their own SMTP server. Send doesn't work on any of them. My OS is Windows 10 and is up to date. My antivirus is McAfee LiveSafe (16.0) and it is up to date.

Those error are all about files being locked as read only. There are some reasons possible for this, but lets tackle the most obvious first and try and mark them as not read only.

Go to help menu > more troubleshooting information. Click on the open folder button in the profile folder entry in Troubleshooting information. Note the folder name you are in in the status bar of the file explorer. Close Thunderbird. Press the up arrow in windows file explorer so the folder name is profiles. Right click the profile folder you were just in and select properties. Down the bottom of the properties you will set attributes and read only probably with a square in the box. Click it to clear it and select ok, then try Thunderbird again.

Are you pressing enter or tab after you enter the email address?

Is there a from: entry showing? above the To: information?

more options

I have done many things to send the email. I have tried all the things you suggested (the from is present and there is a to and a subject) and they don't work. The send button doesn't work and neither does control + enter nor the file menu item. When I make new mail the send button is greyed out. After the @ button is added the send button is ready to send. I click the send button and nothing happens. I don't have a subject and clicking the send button doesn't give the message about not having a subject.

restart Thunderbird in Troubleshooting mode from the help menu and continue in safe mode when prompted. Does the issue still exist?

Hi,

Here are the images.

The one titled "Screen send does not send.png" dosen't respond to the send command.

that image shows the send button disabled because the email does not have a valid to address as yet. complete the address and press enter and post it again please.

Hi,

Here is the screen with the problem and complete email addresses.

and at this point the send does nothing... is that your point?

The screen now looks like it should be functioning correctly. The send is enabled, compulsory fields have data etc. and thunderbird thinks it has enough data to send mail.

So there are only a few options left to make it work.

Try holding the shift key while you start Thunderbird. This will start it in troubleshooting mode. Continue in that mode when prompted.

Does that allow sending?

Hi,

I enter the information and nothing happens. It started after the last update on Friday. I've been using Thunderbird for a very long time and I have never had anything like this happen.

I've done the troubleshooting startup a few times and I get the same results. See the attachment.

The send button doesn't work under any circumstances. I've updated Windows and nothing changes.

I can't send emails for Thunderbird.

open the error console (ctrl+Shift+J) click to empty the trash. Click to send your mail.

What appears in the console immediately following the click? I would expect no delay if it appears to be doing nothing at all

Hi, I just downloaded the latest update. The send still doesn't work, see attachment of email, and control +shift +J gives the attached error messages. I cleared the error messages, repeated the process and the result was the same. The send button doesn't work.

Hi Matt,

That worked the first time. Do you have any idea what would cause the change? I didn't change any settings on the profiles folder.

All I can guess is something in your system changed the file status. It might have been a backup or cloud syncing routine. If the folder is subject to that.

It could have had something to do with anti virus scanning, or a bad read/write for a file in the file system. It might be be a precursor to disk failure. But mostly what I am saying is the causes could the legend, but we will probably never know.

Hi Matt, I found a different solution. -- Remember I am the geezer who understands one of this! I had several several (3) "accounts" I had never been able to delete. I opened each of them and looked at their "account settings." I noticed the one I wanted to use and have used for years did not have the entire name in the "account name" box. The label in the "Folders" column said: "on outlook.office365.com" and the label in the Account Name only said ".office365.com" I corrected the name, and it works!. I then figured out how to "Remove Accounts" and got rid of the ones I don't use. Life is good. Walt

I am using a mac, catalina, 10.15.7 and have the same problems. I assume you mean "get info." It already said "read and write" for me. It didn't help.

re :I am using a mac, catalina, 10.15.7 and have the same problems.

I presume the 'Send' button is enabled, but clicking on it does not send and you are not getting any pop error message. Are you seeing the same errors in the error console ? control +shift +J Click on garbage can to empty and close. Do a send and do control +shift +J What is in error console ?
