Hi,

We appreciate your feedback on the recently redesigned Firefox browser.

We set out in 2021 to reimagine Firefox's design to be fast, modern and inviting. With the latest 89 release, we’re bringing you a modern new look designed to streamline and calm things down so you have a fresh new web experience every time you use Firefox.

Is there anything in particular that you would like to see improved or fixed?

do you have another script to read from , every post i have done or seen you put the same old drivel  ;

well you have failed big time , its not modern or inviting or calming , its just a poncey browser which people use and people like to know where things are on the page , not hunt about trying to find things and change to a better look each time there is another update , before we can start browsing .
so mush unwanted crap with each update that is pointless or of no use to anyone. how about TABS BELOW , we've been asking long enough.

as for feedback is appreciated , thats crap too , because they never listen , tabs below ?? , ff just carries on giving us stuff we didnt ask for or want and update 90 to come , i dread to think what crap that will entail , so see you here again in a couple of months .

now how about answering some questions ;

how do i get rid of the blue star ? how do i make the tabs smaller ? how do i get rid or even change the colour of tab open out line ? how do i get rid of the white line going across my screen just below tabs ? how do i get a light theme , if using a theme that happens to be dark ? how do i get tabs below ? can we have a list of about:config configurations so we can change what we dont like without things being defaulted ? people have been asking these since the update and not one decent answer yet other than some chromecss stuff , that again is of no use to me i have no idea about chrome css

They don't give a flying F about their users. I disabled automatic updates.

You can waste a lot of time here trying to find something that looks slightly less awful: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=photon

Good luck!

I much prefer the desktop layout, colors, font size, spacing - of Firefox, prior to Version 89.0.

Messing with the toolbar layout, choices, and trying to figure out where the options are - isn't fun!!

Personally, I'm assuming there's something in the update that improves security.... but, visually - my previous version was significantly better.

If a "theme" is available - or in development, please advise.

(...) Is there anything in particular that you would like to see improved or fixed?

It is not my habit to start yelling immediately if something changes on my desktop. I always give it a chance. But after using FF89 for about 30 hrs, here's my list:

  1. Only the active tab is distinguishable, the rest is a vague grey bar with icons, parts of titles and X's. Unergonomic and unpleasant to the eye
  2. General lack of contrast
  3. The visually important and functional icons in the hamburger menu are gone
  4. Bookmark folder icons are open and white now which look ugly. Why not use my OS folder icons?
  5. Too thin font in many parts of the browser
  6. Unnecessary white space between tabs and address bar
  7. Too much space between bookmarks and menu items.

I really appreciate Mozilla's achievements in fields like privacy, speed and functionality. But I hate most "improvements" in the UI, like the blow-up address bar in FF75 and Proton. A browser a tool for me, that I use 9-10 hours a day. But it is just a tool, to do my own core business. I don't need to get "new, modern experiences" from it.

Please, please, Mozilla... stay focused on privacy, speed and functionality and leave UI fashion to others.

Hi willem5, there are temporary workarounds for #1/#6 and for #7. For #2, you could consider a different theme. For #3/#4/#5 and in the long run, we'll have to wait and see whether any built-in options are added. If not, there will be the community-support workaround of applying custom style rules. As an example of what that can do, here's what one user has created: https://github.com/black7375/Firefox-UI-Fix

Temporary Fixes

For testing purposes, there is a preference to switch the tab bar and address bar between new style and old style. This is not expected to continue in Firefox 90, but maybe you want to use it for now.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new style) and false (old style)

For testing purposes, there is a preference to switch between new style and old style menus. It helps with the spacing, but might be a tad bit glitchy:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new style) and false (old style)

In my test, the Bookmarks menu on the optional top Menu Bar was messed up in the existing window, but looked okay in a new window. You may need to do a regular exit/restart of Firefox to fully apply this change.

The issue with the bookmark and tool bars icons is pathetic. I have to agree that Mozilla isn't asking it's users what they want, they just do whatever they please.

I want the icons for the toolbars and bookmarks back to the color style not the plain white BS that looks like an outline ! The toolbar itself is a bit thicker that the previous versions, which also sucks.

If you are going to change things to suit YOU, give me the option of saying NO.

I have used Mozilla for years. And years. And I completely agree with the sentiment "Mozilla please stay focused on privacy, speed and functionality". The ui doesn't need to be trendy ....

As a person who has fought to keep Mozilla as an approved browser with her employer for many years now, I am struggling to keep the same enthusiasm with the new version. The text weight is too light! Granted I have some vision issues, but the previous version did not cause me to struggle to read anything on my rather large monitor. I do not have the skills to follow the instructions for potential fixes. Can't the font size and weight be something we can customize. It seems like you are not making it an accessible product for the visually impaired. I hate to use the word "discrimination", but that is the way it feels right now.

Firefox was great. Then you pack the firefox in that funny snappy package manager on ubuntu and my /tmp folder became unusable.

Today I can't use the tabs because the all look the same - no separators, no clear visual indication which is the current tab.

That is total fail.

Frankly, I hate it so much, just copying Edge as it turns out, using more space on my screen for the purpose of being even more redundant? My wife and I feel it is awful, we have not even looked at edge for years, but when we did, on 6/3/21 we were surprised that what Mozilla did was just copy Edge, top to bottom, which is of course stupid and redundant and lacking choices. I am sure they plan to be more invasive as well, if that is possible. So, if Mozilla is just going to be an Edge clone, why have it? I do not need two Invasive browsers that do EXACTLY THE SAME THING AND LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME, one is enough, so firefox was deleted, (granted I would have deleted edge, but that is not an option) on all of our computers, and we are suggesting, that all others we know, do the same. Firefox is now Edge, so to hell with it, and good bye. So, note to Mozilla. Copying a crap browser to use up more screen space, and incidentally making your browser mimic exactly the one we hated, well, it is your prerogative. You have that right, I just uninstalled it, and certainly a boatload of others are going to go the same route. You are looking at a loss in market share only because you were already creeping closer to edge, you were giving in to false marketing advances that were created by the ever increasing degree of covid burn out, and the stupidity and laziness of the last three generations of humanity who no longer know how to communicate beyond twitter. ( I know, no one under the age of fifty has the attention span to continue reading to this point.) The world went stupid, not surprising at all that Mozilla, now composed of those fools, just went the easy way as well. Interesting that if you want innovation and creativity and rebellion, you have to hire folks over 60 years old. Anyone younger, just consumerist robots. Blind and stupid as drowning bats. Farewell Firefox :(

hate edge completely , i wont use it at all and even though we cant uninstall edge from OUR computers i have made sure that crap doesnt run . bad enough with windows 10 getting updates all the time , cant stand windows 10 either . seems all these web people couldnt give a shyte about its users they just want to make ceos even richer and our experience poorer

Hi oneala, I have only used the new Edge for a couple hours here and there. Microsoft started with Chrome and added on features from Firefox and Internet Explorer. It seems to be the most complete browser when it comes to functionality. However, it doesn't fit me as well as Firefox. Each person gets to make their own choices. If you decide to return to Firefox, you can specify the aspects you want to modify and ask the community whether we can help with those.

Chrome and Edge did not "work" for me....until FF89 screwed everything up...again.

To the developers:

              Restore FF88 and spend your time speeding it up;

I'm an older person with vision problems. I can much more easily see black text on white background, but have a VERY DIFFICULT time seeing white text on black background. Are the developers here young people? I think they must be quite young. Perhaps they might consider allowing the user to choose whether we want our right-click menus, tab history menus, etc., to have either black or white backgrounds, white or black text? Have a heart and consider those of us who are a bit visually impaired!

And please, I use a FF THEME, so don't tell me I have to change that in order to get either a "dark or light mode" or I'll just leave FF for good and go back to Chrome or Edge.

Hi kentuckywoman2, I think if your theme has black text, and a light background, the menus should have black text on a light background. However, I can take a look at your theme and see whether it triggers dark menus for me. Which one is it?

Hi kentuckywoman2, you also could try rolling back the menu redesign to the old style. I don't think those adapted as readily to your theme, so if your theme is causing the issue, this may resolve it, at least for as long as we have this temporary preference.

For testing purposes, there is a preference to switch between new style and old style menus:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new style) and false (old style)

In my test, the Bookmarks menu on the optional top Menu Bar was messed up in the existing window, but looked okay in a new window. You can do a regular exit/restart of Firefox is menus are cut off on yours.

WARNING: There are plans to remove this preference in the next two months The preference setting was created as a toggle for developers when building the new design. Now that the new interface has shipped, the preference will be removed.

If you have any issues with the new design, please let us know what it is you don't like, and we can try provide more permanent solutions depending on the issue.

My issue was the Menu Bar drop down lists were showing in black background with white text and I wanted to go back to my old white background with black text to fit my various colourful themes.

Your instructions above, fixed this for me, so thanks for that!
