Hello, I seem to be having a problem with ImportExportTools NG attachments. When I pick export all messages in a folder with attachments with index (tried with text and HTML) the messages and attachments are exported. However, when I pick a e-mail that has attachments, there is no hyperlink to open the attachments to that e-mail. I then have to go find the attachments in the separate folders. In the past when I used ImportExport the attachments were hyperlinked and would open the correct attachments, i didn't have to go looking for it. I'm running Thunderbird 78.6.1 (64 bit) on Windows 10 64 bit PC. Posted this question on the developer's github website over a week ago and no answer. If this is not possible, I'm open to other suggestions on how to accomplish my task.

I'm running Thunderbird 78.6.1 (64 bit) on Windows 10 64 bit PC I've just download the recent version of 'ImportExportTools NG' version 10.0.4 Q: Do you have the latest version of ImportExporttools NG 10.0.4?

Ran several Tests: Created a folder on desktop to receive files. Right click on folder and select 'ImportExportTools NG > Export all messages in the folder > HTML format (with Attachments) Selected the folder I created and click on 'Select Folder'

opened Folder to see contents. Click on an email which I knew had an attachment. It auto opened in Firefox browser - email is readible and below email content in blue is the hyperlink. Click on hyperlink produced the image in same tab. Q: Does your html file open in Firefox ?

This is working.

To check content: Right click on the exported email and select open in 'Notepad'. scroll down to attachment section. Typical information - mine as an example.

It stated

  • <a href="Attachments/Screenshot_20200512_182649.jpg">Attachments/Screenshot_20200512_182649.jpg
  • </a>
  • <a href="Attachments/Screenshot_20200513_102337_com.instagram.android_resized_20200513_102829273.jpg">Attachments/Screenshot_20200513_102337_com.instagram.android_resized_20200513_102829273.jpg
  • </a>

Obviously this just shows the actual html code, so no actual links created. This is expected. Q: Do you see the correct formatting for creating a link?

Also tested opening using OpenOffice Writer Right click on the exported email and select open in OpenOffice Writer Links displayed. When I use 'Ctrl' + left click - image opens in the default Windows 'Photo' window.

This works as expected.

Then ran same test but this time selected: Right click on folder and select 'ImportExportTools NG > Export all messages in the folder > Plain Text Format (with Attachments) Selected the folder I created and click on 'Select Folder'

opened Folder to see contents. Click on an email which I knew had an attachment. It opened in 'Notepad' I could see all the text. The info for link was visible but it was not a clickable link because 'plain text' does not contain HTML content, so it cannot create a clickable link. This info was available so I could locate the correct attachment saved separately.

This works as expected.

I'm not finding an issue.

Thanks for the help Toad-Hall! When I had what I thought was a problem might have been some confusion! When I attempted exporting the folder in the beginning, I was saving it directly to an external drive, with no success. However, when I tried your directions, to my satisfaction, the add-on works great! i was able to take the folder and send to external drive! Thanks again for your help!!
