Firefox has done some kind of update and has removed all my bookmarks, settings and all my passwords I had saved which were important and I don't know how to go back to the way it was. I have lost 5 years worth of stuff, including EVERYTHING I had saved that I needed for my studies. Someone please help! I'm not very tech savy, I did not click on anything for this to happen. My browser has done usual updates before and never had this issue. Please help!!!

I know this can seem quite daunting but there is no other way to do it.

With Firefox closed, open the Old Firefox Data folder on your Desktop - make certain it is the original one (if there is more than one, you can right click on each of them > Properties > General tab, to check the date and time), then highlight everything in it to select all the data and right click > Copy.

Now press the Windows key + R to open Run, then type %appdata% in the box and click OK. Next navigate to Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles, by opening each folder in turn (your profile folder will be 8 letters and numbers followed by .default) Finally, open that folder and right click Paste - if asked, select that you want to overwrite the data. You can now close everything and start Firefox.

Hi, first try restarting Firefox. If that doesn't help, Firefox may have for some unknown reason created a new empty Profile. If that's the case and to switch back to your old one please see Recover user data missing after Firefox update.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please help other users by marking the best reply as Solved. Thank you!

No it is the only profile, and i have just noticed there is a folder on my desktop called old firefox data. I dont understand why it's there as I had not created it. There is no other profiles on my firefox

Ah OK, it seems a Refresh has occurred - no idea why. You will need to copy the files from the 'Old Firefox data' on your Desktop to your Profile in Firefox: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

How do I do it? If it has refreshed wont it just clear everything again?

Refreshed it and it signed me out of everything again

Keeps taking me back to the same places. It is NOT solving my issue about getting all my stuff back. None of my questions are being answered. My profile has nothing on it. I am unable to get anything back as everything is just going around in circles.

Don't Refresh it! If you've refreshed again, you will have another 'Old Firefox data' on your Desktop which you must not use since it will not contain your original data. You must copy all the files from the original 'Old Firefox data' to your empty Profile in Firefox. Take some time to read Recovering important data from an old profile - especially under the heading 'Copying files between profile folders.' When you have copied the files from 'Old Firefox data' you should then paste them into your Firefox Profile which will overwrite the existing empty ones.

So what could I do now? I don't know how to do what you're saying and the recovering profile thing isn't helping me figure this out. I understand what you're saying but I have no idea how to do it

Hello, I have just tried to do exactly what you just said and it has not put everything back on. Do I need to do one folder at a time (theres three from the "old" profile). It did mention the name was too long and to skip it but it still added the three folders from the profile I am trying to get back

Just want to thank you for being patient with me, I finally figured it out. I really am grateful!

You're very welcome, and well done for making sense of what at first sight probably seemed almost incomprehensible!
