I used the thunderbird addon importexporttools-ng to import an MBOX file into thunderbird. I was hoping to then copy or move the emails into gmail using thunderbird.

I have about 30,000 emails I need imported into gmail. However when I try to copy the emails into gmail using thunderbird it only copies about 8,000 of them. I couldn't possibly know which ones have been copied and which haven't.

Why aren't all the emails being copied into gmail. Is is there a setting I need to change or perhaps I need to increase a timeout setting. I thought it was only emails with an attachment that weren't being copied over but that's not the case. However I noticed larger emails are less likely to be successfully copied.

I would really appreciate some help.

Are you trying to upload to an IMAP folder? You're probably reaching a bandwidth limit.

I should have stated I'm trying to move emails from an MBOX folder to a gmail inbox folder using Thunderbird. I have very fast broadband so I doubt its a bandwidth problem. If it's a bandwidth problem is there any way to fix that? Thanks

Your account must be IMAP, since a POP account doesn't allow uploading to the mail server. Uploading to the IMAP Inbox is subject to gmail's quotas, no matter how fast your connection.

Well I tried to upload just 100 emails to the Gmail inbox using Thunderbird. The emails were relatively large but don't contain attachments and it only uploaded about half. Any way around this?

As the cited link explains, you are limited to 500MB per day uploading to an IMAP account. If you cannot wait, and need access to these messages on another device, I suggest you import the mbox to Local Folders, or the equivalent, on the other devices.

No this is not the problem since just now I tried to copy 100 messages from the MBOX folder to my Gmail inbox, all messages were around 100 kb so only 10 mb in total. It only copied over 92. The messages it does not copy over appear to be random. I can't figure out why some copy and some don't.

It has been less than 24 hours since your first post, so you are probably experiencing the daily limit.

Ok, I'll try it again in 24 hours but I doubt its the daily limit otherwise it shouldn't be importing any emails. It always imports some. Thanks for your help
