automatic download of emails in queue

Thunderbird 68.12.0 automatically downloads all email waiting in queue (POP). All server setting check-boxes for downloading are "un-ticked". Lots of spam gets in, anyway, unexpectedly.

It seems to happen even with T-Bird has been running (not starting up).

The idea that automatically downloading waiting emails is "normal" or unexpected seems to be, to me, presumptuous -- particularly when a push of F5 is all it takes to initiate downloading. Reading/processing email has a lot to do with workload and workday timing. Cleaning up spam is time-consuming and I have FireTrust Mailwasher to facilitate that, but if T-Bird downloads automatically, I never get to "wash" that email.

A mess.

Kindly assist. Lawrence Gold hereness@somatics.com

So, what you're saying is that you want Thunderbird to not download the emails till you don't clean them up on the server? Did I understood your request? If yes - then you should go to "server settings" for that email account (tools - account settings) and uncheck the check-box to "check new messages at startup". If not - would you reformulate what is the question/request?

You wrote, "'till you don't clean them up in Mailwasher"? That is the opposite of what I am saying. The word, "don't" is the problem. What do you think I was thinking? I do want to "wash" the emails in-queue before downloading them in T-Bird.

I also said, "the server setting check-boxes for downloading are "un-ticked". " -- meaning, the check-boxes to "Check new messages at startup" and, "Automatically download new messages" are already unchecked and T-Bird is apparently downloading messages automatically, anyway, not just at startup, but when it has already been running.

Thank you for following up.

Yep, apologies for the confusion I think that if 1 account is set to download mails this somehow trigger also on other accounts same action. Can you check if all accounts are with those check-boxes empty (not checked)? Maybe there is 1 set to download automatically?

Thank you for the suggestion.

No accounts are set for automatic downloading, so it must be something else.

Yesterday, I updated to version 78.2.2 32 bit (same settings). If the same behavior appears, I will update this conversation.

Thank you.

The same behavior -- automatic downloading when already running -- happened again, yesterday. I had, laboriously, to check and delete spam emails.

Kindly respond either with a solution or with an update to Thunderbird that handles the problem.

Thank you, Lawrence Gold
