If your Bookmarks Toolbar is missing If you were using the Bookmarks Toolbar for quick access to your favorite bookmarks and the toolbar is now missing, you may have turned off the option to display the Bookmarks Toolbar. To turn it back on:

   Right-click on an empty section of the navigation bar and select Bookmarks Toolbar in the pop-up menu.

Follow these steps to add a Bookmarks Menu toolbar button that shows all of your bookmarks and folders:

   Click the Library button 57 library icon on the toolbar, then click Bookmarks.
   Click Bookmarking Tools.
   Click Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar. 

A Bookmarks Menu toolbar button Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) will appear on the toolbar next to the Library button.

Hi Lyghtkeepr, do you mean on the address bar drop-down list, or in another history list such as

• History sidebar (Ctrl+h)
• Library window (Ctrl+Shift+h)

Those two shouldn't show bookmarks, but of course if you visited a bookmarked page, they could be included in history.

The address bar drop-down has a lot of different behaviors depending on whether it is blank, what you type, etc., so if the problem is there, you may be seeing your Top Sites list instead of the classic "Show History" button list. You can type a ^ in the address bar to call up the classic list. I've got other tips on my page here:

I mean the history sidebar. That is the one I use. Not the address bar.

I know I can just delete the entries or ignore them, but I would like to know why this happened. And I don't have a virus.

Yes, bookmarks will be in history if you actually visit the sites, but why would they show up there if that is not the case? AND why would all of the history disappear?

I had recently cleaned out a lot, but I always leave the previous month.

If all history was erased, one possible reason is if the Places database -- which stores history and bookmarks -- became corrupted or was locked. When creating a fresh Places database, Firefox restores the last automatic bookmark backup.

It is still acting weird. I thought I could just delete the duplicate bookmark entries in the history list. However, once I delete them and then reopen the bar - they're still there. Deleting them doesn't work. I don't know what's going on, and I don't want to have to reinstall the browser, but it looks like I may have to do that.

hello, I have always been signed into my work google account on my desktop. Today, I noticed it said I was "Person 1" instead of my account. I logged in, hit sync, and deleted person 1. Now all of my bookmarks, history and passwords are gone. I don't know how everything got saved to Person 1 when I've been logged in as me forever. I've tried to restore previous versions, but there are none. found a solution for you, Make sure CHROME IS CLOSED! Go to <C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome> Right click on <User Data> Select <Restore Previous Versions> Follow the steps to restore the folder to a time before you deleted the account. Open Chorme and it should be good as new!

Do you have duplicate bookmarks when you check the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b)?

I'm still not sure how that would affect the History Sidebar (Ctrl+h) because History traditionally was very de-duplicated, showing only the latest visit to a site.

Could you let us know what you get when you run the "Verify Integrity" function. That's here:

Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
• (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
• type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.

If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:

> Task: checkIntegrity
+ The places.sqlite database is sane
+ The favicons.sqlite database is sane

Does yours say that, or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.

jscher2000, sorry I didn't see your last response right away. I guess I could have tried that, but I have used a different approach.

This may be considered drastic, but I used a system restore point from a week ago. And that worked.

Sorry for the trouble. If something like this happens again, I have this page marked so I can try the "verify" option then.
