You can try clearing any cookie and site data associated with Gmail (and other Google services). If you go to Gmail and click the padlock icon on the left-side of your address bar, you will be given the Clear Cookies and Site Data... option.

When you click it, it make take some time for Firefox to load the list of data that needs to be cleared. Then you will see a list of Gmail and Google-related websites that will be cleared. Pressing the Remove button will clear that data.

Then, you should try logging in again.

Hope this helps.

If that doesn't help, can you please post any error messages that you are getting when you try to log in and/or specifically what part of the login process you get stuck at?

Hi firefox604

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Here's the error notice from google; "Couldn't sign you in This browser or app may not be secure. Learn more Try using a different browser. If you’re already using a supported browser, you can refresh your screen and try again to sign in." None of this works, your solution doesn't work. Was working fine earlier in the day, and for the last several years. Can sign on using another browser.

Since mid May Gmail blocks email clients (such as Thunderbird) and apps which they did not make themselves, on PCs and mobile devices. The only way to get round it is in two steps as follows a) set up 2-step verification for the email account on the gmail webmail page (sign in -> click your name at top right, -> "Manage gmail account" -> then on the left "Security" -> set up the two step verification which unfortunately requires your phone number. They will send a code in the form of G-123456 (i.e. six numbers). When entering the code in the field, leave off the G- part, just enter the numbers. b) When that is set up, you need to use their App Password function. You can give your app or program any name (Use "Other") if it's not in the dropdown list, such as "TBird-My-email". Click the Generate button and it shows you a small window with the Password code at the top right. Mark it and copy it then paste it in your Thunderbird -> Security -> Passwords -> Show Passwords page to replace your previous password. (Maybe make a note of both the old and new passwords somewhere). This at least works with Mailwasher and Thunderbird. The problem I am currently facing is, I have two gmail accounts, both listed in Mailwasher and TBird. Using the so-called App Password on my PC I can download my main account's emails into Tbird with no problem, but when I select "Get Mail" for my second account in the list, I am immediately taken to some blasted "One log in for all, set up your Google account now" sort of page. I don't WANT to set up a one-for-all Google account.... If anyone can think of a solution to that, I would be grateful.

I'm having some problem with gmail as well, version 68.9.0, cannot get it work and looking for an solution.

The problem I'm having is not with existing gmail account that already added to thunderbird, but with adding new gmail account. Was trying for many times, but it just wouldn't pass the authentication page (I think people refer as "next" button is not working, from post search). After I clicked next with the email address entered, it won't jump to ask for password, but it ask again for the email. No matter how many time I input the email & clicked next it still do the same.

I read people saying to enable the less secure app in gmail account, however it still the same result. Also tried manual config the authentication to normal password but it didn't work either.

Any idea would be grateful, thanks

@decompluse: On the Tools -> Account Settings -> "Server Settings" (for your new email address) in Thunderbird: Are the port numbers correct ? Also check the "Security Settings", i.e. "Connection Security" type and "Authentication method". I use POP3 on my PC, not IMAP so I can't tell you which are the best settings for IMAP. Perhaps you could experiment with different settings, such as "Normal Password" instead of something else.

Note that each Thunderbird address needs to be "registered" separately with that Gmail App Password thing.

But for heaven's sake write down the password for each address and keep it safe, otherwise you may have to go through the whole palaver again if you change to a new device.

G-mail still doesn't work in Firefox, so I opened it in Microsoft Edge. Works fine.

My google account loads, and I can get to Drive. gmail does not load. I have cleared all of history, including cookies and cache to no avail. In my google account, clicking on gmail appears to be a no-op. gmail loads quickly in chrome.
