Abine Blur has been blocked, no Emails being received, I NEED IT NOW - how do I get it back?

more options

Yea I see the notice about a hot fix for something or other, but this is not a NEW installation. it just stopped working.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-ons-failing-install-firefox

I am not receiving emails from Abine Blur to Thunderbird !!! I am LOSING business emails !

"No active steps need to be taken to make add-ons work again. To deliver a fix on short notice, we are using the Studies system. "

UNLESS, like me, Studies was disabled !!! How many users are not savvy enough to track this down? FireFox needs to send messages to its users informing them of this bug.

"It may take up to six hours for the study to be applied to Firefox. To check if the fix has been applied, you can enter about:studies in the address bar. If the fix is active, you’ll see hotfix-reset-xpi-verification-timestampe-1548973 as shown: "

So I gotta wait overnight, while my emails get erased because the temp inbox only lasts a day ???

Looks like I got an email time stamped Sat 5MAY19 at 5:38 am but the next at 6:04am (and all afterwards) have NOT been delivered.

So this bug didn't start on 3MAY as indicated in the Mozilla announcement.

Add-ons Fail Verification

A fix for Firefox 60 ESR is still in the works. See: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05/04/update-regarding-add-ons-in-firefox/

Add-ons Fail Verification -- Unsupported Workaround

The Extended Support Release of Firefox 60 has a setting to turn off signature verification for extensions. This obviously is not as safe, but might be the best compromise in the short run until a formal fix is released.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and submit that. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk if presented.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste xpin and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the xpinstall.signatures.required preference to switch it from true to false

Unfortunately, this creates the potential for a bad actor to serve Firefox an unsigned update, so it's definitely not a long-term fix. You can turn off extension auto-updating as a mitigation:

(4) In the search box above the list, type or paste autoup and pause while the list is filtered

(5) Double-click the extensions.update.autoUpdateDefault preference to switch it from true to false

With that change, the Add-ons page will show a new "Updates Available" section in the left column when updates are detected so you can examine them individually before updating.

Wait, you posted under Firefox, but the problem is your email is not coming into Thunderbird? What is the connection?

more options

Also, I cannot re-install the Blur addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/donottrackplus/?src=search

says "Download failed. Please check your connection."

Firefox is also blocking me from getting it directly from the Abine website.

I am using Firefox version 60.5.1 ESR. Noticed now that a bunch of addons are disabled; this is why the top row of icons seems to have changed a few days ago ??? cannot tell when it happened (things like that should be time stamped so when the user gets around to looking at his Extensions page, he has some clues as to what happened).

I have important things to do; yet another round of spending hours & days trying to fix Firefox is pissing me off.

Went to the Ghostery site to download & Firefox disallows saying it appears to be corrupt. Is that part of this current screwy behavior, or a real Containers issue?

I cannot even close my browser tabs, because MySession (inferior successor to the broken-by-containers & absolutely necessary Session Manager -- which should be a built in feature) is disabled. I would lose all my tabs. I have a lot open (as usual) because I am WORKING...

What about the built-in Restore Previous Session feature? Doesn't work for you? Do you have history settings that conflict with it?

Note: You need to Quit using the menu in order to avoid unrecoverable closed windows when you restore your previous session.

more options

I don't like to automatically restore EVERYTHING. With Session Manager I would have it all saved, and open up the windows for a single topic I wanted to work on. Otherwise it takes up all the memory in my computer & things get glitchy. But Containers has helped with that.

Also, this bug disabled all my privacy & anti-spyware, anti-tracking AddOns. So for several days I have been vulnerable to tracking, without knowing it -- and I've been shopping for a car. FireFox always breaks at a time that really screws me over.

more options

So AdBlock Plus is still disabled, even though the "fix" has been propagated to me, per about:studies.

"9:31am PST, Please do not delete your add-ons as an attempt to fix. You will lose any data related to the add-on."

So should I attempt to re-install it or not?

Ditto for all the others.

Wait, you posted under Firefox, but the problem is your email is not coming into Thunderbird? What is the connection?

Abine "Blur" is an AddOn that will insert a throwaway email into an address box in FireFox. Blur then forwards replies to my "real" email. Then I can Reply and it will be routed thru the "throwaway" address. So the correspondant never gets my real address.

I noticed that I was not receiving forwards from Blur. Not getting emails from a particular Blur "throwaway" email address. Could be 1) Firefox bug that is disabling AddOns (including Blur ) 2) Blur is forwarding them but my IP is blocking that particular domain (Blur uses several) 3) This is a domain that I have not seen used by Blur for a long time, so maybe it was deprecated by Blur

And it just has to happen just after I used that particular throwaway address to contact a bunch of car dealers. So now they have me tracked on the web, I cannot email them back... clusterfucked. I think I did use Private Browsing. But I don't think it stops them from fingerprinting my computer, so what's the use?

I emailed Blur support, so they need to send me a test email from that address to see if my IP is blocking their forwarding.

So -- I've spent a lot of time & effort on this. Instead of prepping for a business meeting on Monday.

Has anyone started a list of which AddOns are not working?

DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials is another -- does this mean that when I use DuckDuckGo for searches, or StartPage.com (which utilized DDgo data IIRC) I am not being protected from Google tracking me?

So I can't even do searches until this bug is fixed?

I just saw the below reply in my emailed thread update. Seems to have turned the AddOns back on for me. The "warning" text is now in gold color not red & says "proceed with caution."

They should have included this workaround in the announcements "Add-ons disabled or fail to install on Firefox (Redirected from Add-ons failing to install on Firefox) "

Howdy VerizonSucks,

I am still using FF 56.0.2 (64-Bit) simply due to the MANY bugs that have been documented here in the Forum (with later versions), and the total destruction of "Addons" with "Web Extensions."

The addons that I have found to be disabled (& marked "... could not be verified for use by Firefox and has been disabled") by Mozilla in my FF browser are as follows (PLEASE excuse any typos, Mozilla has always made it impossible to copy the names/versions in order to paste them here - yet another thing about Mozilla that pisses me off):

- Blur; - McAfee Web Advisor; - McAfee Web Boost; - Adblock Plus v 3.4.2 - Ads Removal (Legacy) v 1.0.0 - LanguageTool Grammar and Style Checker 1.0.46; - Flash Video Downloader v 16.3.5;

Another ESSENTIAL Addon that seems to now be abandoned by the developer due to the stupid restrictions by "Web Extensions" is Screengrab!. "Web Extensions" would not allow Screengrab! to "remember" where it stored the last screen image. If you are documenting bill payments, for example, the user has to navigate to the same "save" location with EACH save (which could be 20+ times for 1 bill payment). Because of this, the developer seems to have removed ALL versions from his site. In several email exchanges with the developer, early on in the "Web Extensions" fiasco, he did try to comply with the "Extensions" restrictions. However, it became useless to most users. Because I am keeping FF 56.0.2, I am keeping the last fully functional Screengrab (fix version 0.99.12) "Legacy" version. "Firefox Screenshots" does not work in FF 56.0.2, and is useless in later versions when compared to Screengrab!.

An additional 5 "Legacy" Addons have also been disabled, without any Mozilla comment.

I hope that my short list of additional Mozilla Disabled Addons helps you to compile a full list of what Mozilla is now prohibiting us to do, with any version of Firefox.

Look in the applications/utilities folder for GRAB which will handle your screen grabs in several ways.

Hi Doug, if you need to copy/paste a list of extensions, you can do that from the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Scroll down past "Application Basics" and "Firefox Features" to "Extensions". Then you can select and copy the table that follows using either Ctrl+c or right-click > Copy.
