Hi fsamyn, I don't know why the certificate does not appear.

If you decide to come back to Firefox, could you try this:

(1) If you use an old Master Password

Master Passwords created before Firefox 56 are associated with failures in adding the new certificate (reasons yet to be determined). You can change the Master Password from itself to the same thing again. See: Use a Master Password to protect stored logins and passwords -- "Changing the master password" section

(2) Reset a preference

This preference is set when the new certificate is inserted, and prevents it from being done again. We need to check whether it was added and, if it was, switch it off.

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste signer and pause while the list is filtered

(C) If the extensions.signer.hotfixed preference is bolded and "modified" to true, double-click it to set it to false

If you do not have that preference, great, no need to create it.

(3) Exit and restart Firefox and see whether it adds the certificate this time

Any luck?

Hi rcr1959, did you get the studies related to this fix, or did they never show up on the about:studies page?

If you got the studies, check whether the certificate was added. That would be on the Options/Preferences page:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type cert and Firefox should filter to the Certificates section. Then click the "View Certificates" button. Check the "Authorities" tab to see whether Mozilla is listed with the new certificate. You can compare the attached screenshot.

Hello rcr1959,

Personal opinion (unsolicited, I know) :

You're best off with just using Windows built-in Defender and maybe let malwarebytes run a scan once a month. With that and using the best browser on the planet, it's like being in Fort Knox   …..

The new FF 66.04 still has the same problem. I followed the instructions and Mozilla is not even listed under authorities. So how do I fix this? very weird that the owner of the program is not even listed as an authority I agree maybe it is time to switch browsers. This used to be my favorite but too many problems to have addons working when a FF upgrade breaks things

I don't know why that happens. It's something I saw at the very bottom of the release notes: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/66.0.4/releasenotes/ Thank you for your willingness to see whether that problem applied to you and test the workaround.

Note that this also could have been a problem with pkcs11.txt (secmode.db was used previously) as we have seen more reports in the past that this file could be causing certificate and master password related issues. I don't know whether a MP change could trigger a pkcs11.txt rebuild.

I was running Firefox 68.0.2 and when I turned my computer off last night all of my add ons for downloading from youtube worked. Today, with ZERO updates, they did not. After disabling and enabling each on, after uninstalling and installing each one, after trying to sync, I gave up and installed Firefox 69.0 and there was no change.

SO, NONE OF MY YOUTUBE DOWNLOADER ADD ONS from the Firefox site work. None.

Again, They have worked and I have had no problems. I did nothing and made no changes - I simply woke up to none of my add ons working. Updating the browser etc as described above did zero to correct the problem. Two of the buttons don't even appear.
