Third party download manager support and a way to disable the built-in downloader. There should be an option to disable the built-in download

more options

Hi, Third party download manager support and a way to disable the built-in downloader. There should be an option to disable the built-in download and have the third party download manger listed as the application to handle the downloads. About 20% of the time the internal downloader will start the download, which is extremely aggravating .I am a long time user of FireFox, I use it 99% of the time.I know that I am not the only user that has this issue.

Is there any way to get these options in the next version?

Is there a way to add the download manager as the preferred downloader?

Thanks

to answer your two questions: As a long term user of Firefox, you should be well aware that nothing in the way of "options" gets added in the "next version".

No. Typically the download manager "takes over" that functionality upon installation via Windows operating system preferences. Perhaps you need to do a bit of configuration of the Download Manager application that you installed?

I can't help you with that, as I have never used an external download manager with Firefox. But I have seen a difference with a small number of download hyperlinks that have a different "routine" which can be detected 'on hover' over the hyperlink; those types hyperlinks are JavaScript which can be seen 'on hover' in the statusbar that appears 'on hover' in the lower-left corner of Firefox. Overall, I tend to right-click on what appears to be a download hyperlink and use "Save Link As ..." to save the file I want to download; the JavaScript run downloads don't work using "Save Link As ..."
