I've had some webpages on my history get saved on my computer under "racer's Firefox on Notebook", and have no idea how I did that and I don't know how to make them go away.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

If that still doesn't work then check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
    in case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry

Hmm, interesting. When I have that icon on the left side, the text on the right says "Switch to Tab".

Possibly this is related to having Firefox Sync set up to share tabs between your different installations of Firefox.

If you open your Firefox Account settings, you can see whether this description refers to the Firefox you are using right now, or may refer to one of your other synchronized installations:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Firefox Account.

On the right side, if Sync is set up, you will see a box for "Device Name" which is how your current Firefox is described in your account. Does it match what you see for open tabs in the drop-down list, or are those from somewhere else?
