Hi drewschlie, what happens when you try to download files? Is there an error message on the Downloads button drop-panel? What other symptoms could you describe to give us a little more context, a few more clues.

When you click on the downloads button it just says failed. And a orange dot is on the upper corner of the download drop down button. I don't know what other symptoms there could be.

This could be caused by a permissions issue. Firefox normally starts downloads into your TEMP folder, and then when it has received the entire file, moves it to your specified download folder.

What if you try another method: right-click a link to a download and Save Target As..., selecting your preferred download folder. Any difference?

What about a different destination within your current Windows user profile?

What about a different destination outside your current Windows user profile, such as a new folder named

Same thing occurs. I right clicked and tried save link as and twice it shows up in download as failed.

If you check your temp folder and sort by file modified time, can you find Firefox downloads languishing there? Sometimes they will have .part on the end of the file name.

As a shortcut to open the folder, you can paste the following into the Windows Start menu search box and press Enter to launch it:

%TEMP%

Also, this could be a new beta issue. Do you know when Firefox last updated? Usually you can see the chronology on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, there's usually a "Show Update History" button.

It was last updated today because I reinstalled Firefox after I downloaded it from explorer

Note that DE has moved to Firefox 65.0b1 (current beta is 64.0 build1) to prepare for the next major Firefox update to 64.0.

Could this issue be due to DE update

If more browsers are affected then your security software could be causing it.

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
