Can't select links on mouse hover in the drop down list from address bar to delete them

I've posted 2 years ago the same question. Mozilla solved it in the later versions. I'm now on v.63.0.1(64bit) Can't remember exactly on what version the problem started again, but on 49.0.1 I could just mouse hover on any address in the drop down list in address bar and press Delete. How do I delete now, without going to Options and so on ?

Click in the field, enter a character or two and STOP ! Using the arrow keys, highlight an unwanted entry. Then press Delete (Mac=Shift Delete). Repeat as needed.

You can no longer use hover, but you need to use the cursor key(s) to highlight (select) the item you want to remove via the delete key (hover doesn't select).

What is the core reason for changing this cool feature ? Even IE 11 has the X(delete) button on mouse hover at the extreme end of a URL
