Is it me or does the memory leaks in Firefox 61.0.02 seem to be getting worse?
While I have had problems with the memory leak ever since the switch to Quantum. It seems to have gotten worse in version 61.0.2. In older version I only had problems on Facebook. Now Facebook has bad memory leakage withing 2 minutes as apposed to 10-15 before. and I now have leakage problems every where on the internet after 20 minutes or so. I have tried all the solutions in the "Firefox uses too much RAM" article. None worked and I am getting tired of Mozilla blaming it on extensions. When are they going to fix this and stop trying to blame it on everyone else?

Hi. well Win7 is on a older computer with low ram, motherboard drivers that have never been updated and a Video Card that is using years old drivers, and they have not been reinstalled for years is this correct ?
To be Checked and turned off unless needed for accessibility : Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
Multi-Processor Support : Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.
Only Disable as last resort.
Multi-processor Can completely disable it this way in about:config : dom.ipc.processCount set to 1 browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false
Only move to esr if low ram and old system.
Firefox Extended Release Version : Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.

Did you NOT read my post I've tried all the stuff in the "using too much RAM" including ALL the linked options too. Also, it is a memory leak issue (the same one the FF has had since around version 4) not a slow issue. My system while a bit old is more than twice "recommended" specs!
How was your FF update and what was the previous version? This sounds more like your FF update and got corrupted and only real fix is to uninstall all FF and delete Mozilla folder and reinstall again and see if the problem happens again. I never hard issues with previous FF including FF4 memory leaks happen for the most part from corrupted installations.

Not wanting to believe that (many) extensions use a lot of RAM : that is your prerogative.

And what part of "Start firefox in safe mode (where all extensions are disbled and not running) per the links provided that I said in the original post I have done numerous times did you not understand. Not to mention the fact that any extension that used 2-5 Gbytes of memory would not make it through the vetting they go through! That is the size of the memory leak I am talking about, if you like it would only take about 5-10 minutes at most to get a screenshot of that!
My frustration is from coming here for decades with this issue and never getting an answer beyond people posting the same "Firefox uses too much memory" links that were posted in the first response to this question. Mozilla is starting to get as bad as Microsoft as far as "Official" answers to problems. Meaning None. In all my years (Over 37) of being a PC technician I have yet to find a real answer on Microsofts website for any problem, the few fixes I have found was from a non-microsoft person posting a link to a fix from some other site. Mozilla doesn't even have that, at least for this issue that I have seen.
This is 3 minutes, doesn't always do it that fast, part depends on which websites I hit. Facebook is the worst but it happens with just about any surfing I do, though slower sometimes.
P.S. that is in regular mode but all extensions disabled.

Sorry for not replying to your questions sooner. But I have tried new profile and clean install also, no difference. Originally used the automatic update. I have even tried re-installing the full system (Windows and all.) Though that was a hard drive going bad that caused that extreme of a fix to try. I installed everything from scratch (thought that was FF ver. 60) no backup (backup was corrupt do to HD going bad and the encryption used by the backup program was unable to read the backup file even though the backup drive was good. The backup did a temp copy on the original drive if there was room before coping to the backup drive and it got corrupted due to original drive going bad. It was a pain in the a**.

Believe me, I would be delighted if FF used even 800 Mbytes or so on my system. I am talking 2-5 or more Gbytes here, and again the screenshot I posted is 5 Gbytes and all extensions turned off. (I did see those articles.) Nothing new there to me or anything related to this issue.

Yes I am, though when preparing to due this I went to about:memory when the leak was 2.3 Gbytes, and it immediately dropped down to 348 Mbytes as soon as I clicked the "measure button. So now I'm not sure if I can provide the information needed for the bug report (I have filed one a number of years ago, like 15 or so on the memory leak version number was some where in the 20's then.) Because of what I just witnessed with the memory usage I think I would like a little more input on what people think I could do to provide the information since as I see it memory usage info would be crucial to this. Any suggestion of possible programs to use to get detailed information from firefox since the memory command seems to stop the leak before it can record the info?
This is way over my head - keeping my fingers crossed that someone else will come to your rescue ......
Well, thank you for trying with something more than the pat answer most have given me and others on this issue meaning the "Firefox uses too much RAM" link.
While I'm hoping that somebody else will be able to give you some good advice :

Type in the address bar about:memory and press Enter (?)

I haven't tried the turning-off the Multiprocessor setup yet. That might also help. I'm using the 2 setting now.
I have Hardware Acceleration un-checked.
There's another thing you could try that's helped me extend my browser sessions before becoming Memory-Choked or an occasional crash. Setting the Disk Cache in About:Config to 0. It's been working great for me for a while now.
browser.cache.disk.capacity (Set to 0)
