I can no longer take screenshots of pdf files like a couple of weeks ago

Up until a couple weeks ago right clicking on a pdf and selecting to take a screenshot was doing just that - allowing me to take a screenshot of the pdf in the page. Since then whenever I try to do the same, I get an error saying that this is not a standard web page. Any advice?

This is bug and it'll be fixed in the next beta.

Is this on a web page or did you load a file from your hard drive?

I have the issue either if I load a file from my HDD or if I open an online document. I can't really provide any example because this is a work machine, but here is a public one I tried that doesn't work for me.

Are you using the snapshot built into the current Firefox or an add-on?

Windows has its own version of this. It's called Snipping Tool on Win 7.

So any clue as to why I can no longer use the built in tool to take pdf snapshots? Btw I'm using the Developer edition.

I called for more help.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Yes, the Firefox screenshot extension doesn't seem to work with the builtin PDF Viewer.

I can take a screenshot of the visible part of the page when I use the developer tools feature to take a screenshot, but full page isn't working even if I use the Screenshot Node item in the right-click context menu in the Inspector.

Note that best is to open the developer tools in a standalone window.

Any reason as to why the built in tool was working in the past but not any more? It was one of the most useful features of the browser for me.

Edit1: Also, I can take a screenshot of the node from dev tools but compared to using the context menu entry, it seems counter-intuitive.

I don't really care about full page screenshots, only for capturing the pdfs I'm generating.

Edit 2: The context menu entry doesn't seem to work on this page either.

We're not privy to developer decisions, but more than likely the developers were working off a Bugzilla report to block or eliminate all internal pages from the screenshot service. And since the PDF Viewer is built into Firefox that is the reasoning behind it now not working. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/


Does the Win10 Snipping Tool feature still work for the PDF Viewer? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snipping_Tool I'm on Win7 and have never used the Snipping Tool; I have a screenshot utility program from the days of Win98 /NT4 that still works for me, so I have no need for the one in Windows or the one inside Firefox.

This could be an issue caused by AdAware or Web Companion from Lavasoft.

You can look for a file named dsengine.js in these locations. You should only find channel-prefs.js in the "defaults\pref" location. Any file found here apart from channel-prefs.js is suspicious. You can check the content of the file in a text editor (use open with and do not double-click the file).

You can look for a file named dsengine.cfg in the main Firefox program folder.

I wasn't able to find any of these files.

Also, yes the snipping tool works, but is not as much accessible as the context menu option.
