Hi, it's a computer program, what can I say. As I have no idea what was the issue or what caused the file you say to act like that. Bitcoin Miners can do that. As a regular browser program yes Firefox needs a tuneup at times : Refresh but do this 1st: Delete your Cookies and Cache and TEST.

I have no need to do radical resets since my system is back to normal. It is now an additional bother to check the health of Firefox to be sure it is not gobbling up an annoying amount of ram memory. If I knew the cause of this problem, I may be able to prevent it from happening again. Certainly, all the virus programs I run did not catch it. Could the problem just be an unnecessary accumulation of data by Firefox? Right now, I have to rely on Task Manager to show me any unusual usage of ram memory.

Virus and anti-malware programs are to different things, still suggest scanning as they work and see things differently.

There s nothing I can find relating to your issue of your Profile doing what it did after 57+. All solutions before that no longer apply.

See if this is checked please : Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

Can also reduce the amount of Processors being used. Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

After preventing accessibility services and changing performance down to 2, my available memory was restored. However, even with these reset values, when I started my machine from sleep this morning, firefox had consumed almost all of the available memory. Doing a restart restored the available memory, so for now, it is ok. I have run Malware detect, Wise Cleaner, CCleaner, but I still don't see what caused this. If it is a virus, I cannot identify it.

HI the programs you listed do not scan for Malware other than maybe Malware Detect. I still suggest running the programs that are suggested in the URL that was Provided with that information. With no information sent to us to see your Extensions and Video Card Drivers it is some what harder to nail down the issue. A Refresh can fix corrupted files or configurations which could cause the issue. Corrupted Video Card Drivers can cause a wide range of issues. You can check about:support copy/paste to the Address Bar then Enter and view them un'supported is bad. Extensions take aprox 20megs of ram each to run. Can try : SAFE MODE

OK. Ran the Malware program. Nothing found. Not sure if this was just a repeat of running my Malware program. Are they the same and if not, why not? Also, I ran the Hitman program and it found some 73 issues like tracking cookies, etc. I cleaned them off and rebooted. Firefox is only taking up about 165K of memory, for now. I will monitor memory usage to see if there are any big changes. Hopefully, the cleanings you recommended will keep my system on track. For now, thanks for your help.

Hi, Welcome. You never gave the name of your Anti-malware program. As for comparing them there is no authoritative place to find that out but it is the data bases they use and how they scan. How something can hide from one scanner but turn up in another. As well there are scam scanners out there.

The tracking cookies could have been the issue as cookies these days as soon as start up and log on to the net they start talking to who ever placed them or multiple places and if one was a bad cookie telling it to should see that/code, you could have been bitcoin mining for someone.

I have run Bitcom and Malwarebytes, but running Firefox is only reduced in Ram usage by a reboot. Even after rebooting, after a few hours, the ram usage again creeps up to almost full usage of the Ram memory. I have several tabs open at this time. Could that contribute to this problem?

No offense but this is pretty much all Junk. When Mozilla came out with 60.0 it was a memory hog on some sites. As they did their upgrades it improved to where I wasn't having any problems at all. Unfortunately 62.0 has started my memory problems again. I'm going to try to go back to last 61. whatever, set "Options" so it doesn't upgrade automatically and wait until they get up to something like 62.4 and see what happens. I know they are all volunteers and so are the "Contributors" but when so many people complain they need to figure out there is a problem. Still like Firefox although I really don't like 62.0 for some other reasons. It's beginning to look a lot like "Edge" and that ain't Christmas.

I should have been more specific about this problem. I think the memory usage is linked to the great number of tabs I have open. Rebooting the PC lowers the memory usage temporarily, but for some unknown reason the usage creeps up again to about 3/4 the capacity. Again, rebooting will lower the usage to about a quarter of full capacity. When I reload the Firefox, the usage creeps up. Opening pages in Firefox also increase the usage considerably, even if I subsequently close them out. Tabs are tricky to work with in Firefox and I am only glad I can recover them after a reboot.

Hi shydubren, do you have Firefox set to restore your previous session windows and tabs when you restart Firefox? It's almost the first thing on the Options page. I think that is safer than relying on crash recovery.

When restoring a session, Firefox only loads the active tab in each window, so definitely memory use will be lower than if all the tabs were still open.
