Why do I have to reinstall the latest version everytime I open Firefox,it reverts back to an old version.

I had to download and install to the latest version of firefox to support a website I was trying to view. Since doing so now every time I open firefox its some old version with nothing saved,bookmarks history etc. then I have to download and reinstall the latest version again and everything returns. Very frustrating.
