On the slow loading tab, a green line will be going around and around sometimes for an hour or more. Please help me.

What does the green line say? All web pages, some, a few?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

It happens on most web pages. One web page it never happens on is www.webmasterquest.com. I went to safe mode and it still happened in safe mode. It seems to always happen on web pages from washingtonpost.com. As much as I love firefox, I am considering going over to chrome. Please help!

Hi, you are using an old version of Firefox, which can compromise your security and may cause other problems. To update it, open the 3-bar menu > Help (question mark at bottom right) > About Firefox. Alternatively, you can press the Alt key to bring up the main menu bar > Help > About Firefox. More - Update Firefox to the latest release.

Note that Vista is no longer supported for the mainstream release, but you should be automatically updated to ESR 52. If not, you can download from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

Do you mean that the tab loading throbber keeps spinning and doesn't stop?

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

That is a round arrow. As cor-el said; it shows the page is being loaded.
