A couple of days ago Firefox stopped working on my PC. Nothing had been changed. When it opens, it doesn't load, the cursor stays on the thinking circle whenever I move it over the page. I can't open the options menu, can't load a specific page if I type the address in, Bookmark toolbar is gone and when I retrieve it, my data is gone. I can't exit using the X in the corner, I have to go into the menu and use the "Exit Firefox" icon.

I have deleted and reinstalled approx 4 times. I have researched and researched, tried all the suggestions I have found on different websites and forums (Microsoft Edge and IE still work). A couple of things worked, but then I couldn't get Firefox to load any pages as they were ALL untrustworthy, so I imported my Anti-virus Software certificate, that fixed that problem but as soon as I exited and reloaded Firefox I was back to the beginning with nothing loading.

I'm usually pretty self sufficient at finding a solution without annoying anyone with questions, but after a few days of research and testing, I'm not finding anything that works and am at a complete loss.

hi, this sounds like a problem that may be caused by the new multi-process architecture in firefox (codename "e10s"): https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2016/08/02/whats-next-for-multi-process-firefox/

please try disabling e10s like this: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2. double-click it and change its value to false and restart the browser.

What's your computer system and Firefox version?

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

I have an Intel(R) Core(TM) I7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.90GHz 64-bit Operating System. I've just installed Firefox 51.0.1 today.

I've removed it from Kaspersky's firewall's list of trusted programs, it didn't help. Started in safe mode, problem is still there.
