size of firefox window larger than the screen when maximized
Setup: Yoga 900 W10 laptop - with additional monitor. Problem only with Firefox. Other programs not having this problem. Tried few different monitors and using native resolution.
Problem - when FFox window is maximized on second monitor (not talking about the built-in laptop's) it seems that borders lie outside the screen. Like 4-5 pixels on all 4 sides are missing (want to be displayed outside the screen). Why only 4-5? Because Fox is generally usable, but for an example I have only 1/2 of the scroll bar (vertically) on the right; when I hover over any link without clicking on it - the full address that should come up in lower left corner above task bar shows up half-way under the task bar (see attached pic); the "previous page" arrow in upper left corner is missing the left tip (gain - functionally not important). Thanks for suggestions.

Do you use a customized "text size" setting in Windows? Usually it works in large increments like 100%, 125%, 150%. Just wondering whether this is a bug in computing the available screen space for Firefox's window.
Sometimes Firefox stores nonsense values for window sizes and positions and the data is difficult to edit. You can rename the file where Firefox saves those values to return to the default sizes. Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
- (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.
Start Firefox back up again. Does Firefox figure out the correct size for itself when maximized?
Note: This will turn off the Menu Bar and Bookmarks Toolbar. If you need to redisplay those or other bars, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:
- right-click a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
- tap the Alt key to activate the classic menu bar > View > Toolbars
- in Customize mode > Show/Hide Toolbars (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)
To turn on the Menu Bar, Bookmarks Toolbar, or other bars, click it on the list.
HI. THanks. This procedure did not change a thing. (did not have a localstore) attached image of upper left corner of the screen.
Do the two displays have different resolutions? A number of users have reported problems with Firefox windows moved between displays with different resolutions. I don't know of a fix for that issue.
sure. one is laptop 3200xwhateve and the other is monitor 1900xwhateve. I used FFOx on different laptops for years and have not noticed this issue.... ah well. I can live with few pixels less :) the only thing I am missing is when I hover over the link - to see exactly the whole http address... if you know a poke to move that displayed from lower left corner to somewhere else -= please let me know.
You can use a script to load a resizable window at your preferred size. This would work around the problem with the maximized window but you would be giving up a few more pixels all around due to the window borders.
The trick with the code is getting the correct dimensions because they vary depending on your global zoom factor. Typically Firefox follows the Windows "text size" which on newer systems may default to 125% but on a higher-than-HD display may be 150% or something else.
Let me see what I can come up with (later, I'm at work now...)
we tend to like to complicate things (scientists and engineers) - i just stretched (not maximized) the window to almost the screen size and I think this will hold the water :))) thanks!!!!
believe it or not - the problem cured itself after I upgraded to Win10 1607 today....
