Won't connect to Sophos website saying it is insecure?!!!!

Early on I get a message saying Sophos not running so I do an manual update. When I go to their home dashboard everything seems fine, all ticked, clear etc. but because it has made me worried I then go for a full scan. After scanning around 550,000 files I then get a message that the scan has been abnormally stopped. Try to go to Sophos support and Firefox messages me that it is an insecure site. Confused and concerned. On a Mac but not yet Sierra.
