When I was watching a video from one local news site, my Netscape freezed and started to give loud noise. Only thing I could do was to force the shutdown for the laptop. On next reboot my Windows did not start not even with those restricted options. Only way to get into disk was to start linux from usb. I am on the process to change totally to linux eventually but now it seems to really happen. I used - still - Windows XP behaving as a POS terminal towards MS to get security updates (haven't been interested about newer Windows on this machine because it's quite old).

I found my profile folder on Mydocuments/user-name/Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox. And there is even file named "bookmarks-2016-05-04_2228_9-vTneD-dn1X+oRQobeoKQ==.jsonlz4" under ../Profile/vyqshq1j.default-1431589626656/bookmarkbackups. And much more. Is it possible to load those bookmarks etc. - which were saved on windows xp - to linux netscape ? My linux distro will be either ubuntu or debian based, haven't desided yet. If this is possible, how I should proceed ? Most of those files seem to be json-files which I am not able to open - at least not with standard apps.

hi MakePa, yes you can copy some files containing your bookmarks and passwords into your new profile in order to restore the data: Recovering important data from an old profile

Thanks, philipp ! I will look carefully for those instructions when I have installed linux directly on the disk. Now still using it from usb. But I was going to make some hw-changes also before that. But good to know they should be able to resque.
