why does firefox display gibberish in many items
Reports from news outlets, financial institutions and so on come to my Gmail account. Today a lot of the contents from many of the websites of those outlets and institutions are displayed on Firefox in gibberish. When I copied and pasted them in MSFT Word they were regular English. This did not happen before. I wonder why it is like that and if it can be corrected.
I am using Google Chrome to access Mozilla support now because when I did it through Firefox there was no response. The page froze. I have had too much problem with Firefox lately.

Thank you very much for the advice. Today I opened gmail to fix the issue. But before I did anything I found the problem left on its own. It came suddenly and left miraculously !!
I have used Firefox for years almost exclusively. Recently there are many different problems making me wonder if I would continue using it.

It is possible that there is a problem with the font that is used to display the text.
You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).
You can try different default fonts and temporarily disable website fonts to test the selected default font.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced
- [ ] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
