I have noticed now my HD runs almost constantly. I thought it was indexing but I have turned every place off that controls indexing. Now I find through searches of forums that Firefox does this and BINGO ... I Exit Firefox and it stops. This is a little crazy. How can I stop this from happening. I have no RSS feeds in bookmarks and I have unchecked all those options in security and the crazy Firefox still makes the HD run like it's going nutz!!! This has to stop. It goes on every time Firefox is used. I had v.44.0.1. and I use on this particular an XP that is still getting updates and has a good anti-virus program. And I run several malware and spyware programs oft. What's up with this? Thanks! Jack ":-\\ (It's doing it now!!) I'm going to Chrome or Opera if I can't find a resolution!!!)

I think Firefox is the only mainstream browser that still supports XP so you may be better sticking with Firefox. I have an XP and the hdd does not run constantly on that when I use Firefox.

What happens if you run Firefox in safemode (hold the Shift key as you click the Firefox icon) and with nothing but a blank page or the standard Mozilla Firefox homepage open?

Note it maybe worth trying temporarily setting Internet Explorer as your default browser. The problem may be other software trying to use your default browser. If that is the case then you will need to investigate that problem, but it should then be IE not Fx that causes the hdd to spin.
