What security software do you have?

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift (Mac: Options) key to see if that helps.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

As a test, disable your protection programs.

@cor-el, as stated in my problem description, I am using ESET Nod32. I disabled active firewall protection on both ESET and Windows built in, to see if that helped and it did not. I also tried removing firefox from the firewall and having the PC add it back in. That didn't solve anything. @FredMcD, I am able to use firefox in safe mode, I discovered that before your reply. So I am led to believe that an add on I have installed is the culprit. I am only using FireFTP, not actively right now but it is installed. Last Pass, and Ad-Block Plus.

I just did a refresh on firefox and it still wont load any pages or allow me to even visit the add on page. But I am able to use the web in safe mode though. So even with no add ons, the only was I can use the web is in safe mode...???

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Restart Firefox. Are there any problems?

Hardware acceleration was on, but after following last instructions it didn't change anything

Do not scan SSL protocol was already checked. Let me reinterate, this issue starting occurring after I upgraded to 44.0 Never had an issue before now. No other hardware or software changes have been made to this PC. Other PC's in the house are also not effected. Also both HTTP and HTTPS are not loading.

I just upgraded to 44.0.1 and when it reloaded all worked well. When I closed the browser and reopened it again, the issue returned....

Disable / update LastPass

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

• Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Augh... Issue has returned.

Did you disable / update Lastpass?

After my problem "appeared" to be working again, I reinstalled my three add ons I use, incl Last Pass so Last Pass should have been the most up to date version since I got it fresh from the add-on page. I did not attempt to disable it to see if that works.

BadgerHim, I'm not sure this is your problem but I upgraded to FF44.0 a few days ago and since have had several instances - including this morning - of Firefox running fine and then just stalling, with attempted links "connecting..." with no success.

At first I thought it was a temporary loss of internet service but checking Chrome showed normal page loads so I assumed it was FF.

Closed FF and reopened it but still couldn't connect to any page.

I look at Task Manager a lot (for other things) and I noticed that when I closed FF a second time an instance of "firefox.exe*32" was still there in the PROCESSES tab when it shouldn't have been. I did see that FF wasn't listed in the APPLICATIONS tab.

I highlighted that rogue "firefox.exe*32" process and clicked "End Process", reopened FF and things were back to normal.

So maybe try closing FF when it's unresponsive, look at Task Manager>Processes for a "firefox.exe*32" that shouldn't be there, end it if it is, and run FF again.
