Why does Mozilla cache so many files, typically 27,000 + each day thus using so much memory? By clearing the cache I typically recover 800MB DAILY!

I'm about to delete Firefox from my laptop for the third time - and this time I shan't be returning. Three main reasons : 1. Constant Plug-in crashes, 2. Irritatingly frequent 'flash-player has closed' problems, and 3. The over-active cache created files. Can anyone tell this technophobe where I've gone wrong? As far as I am aware plug-ins are upto date (including Adobe Flash Player).
