I'm on Ubuntu with Firefox 42. Tried refreshing Firefox, but the problem didn't go away.

I'm signed in Firefox Sync, but Firefox Hello says I'm Guest. When I try to sign in Firefox Hello, it's icon turns red with exclamation mark on it.

How do I sign in Firefox Hello now?

I am nor entirely familiar with Ubuntu or if there would be any difference in software. However when you are looking at the place where it says that you are a guest when using Firefox Hello, are you in a private tab or window? Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history

Cookies need to be enabled in order for Hello to show you are logged in/work (I added a screenshot)

Or does it show a warning that it could not authenticate?

There was a bug I found that may have an idea, though I am not sure what version of ubuntu that you are running. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1137141

No, it doesn't. Actually, I think it authenticates, but doesn't show it. If I enter incorrect password, it shows error message that it could not authenticate, but if the password is correct, it just closes the tab with login form and changes Hello icon to the one you can see on attached screenshot.

One more thing: I sometimes can see Telefónica logo on my Firefox Hello, but on my friend's computer I saw O2 logo. Did Firefox Hello change provider recently? May this be a problem?

The problem is not Linux specific. I just tried with Windows computer with Firefox Hello powered by O2 and got this:
