Hi,

As some may know, the Australian Government has now started collecting every Australian's metadata on the 13th of October. I am writing to ask if Firefox does, or can, block metadata from being sent or if any addons etc can scramble it or something.

I have no clue as to how it all works but I just really don't like draconian governments watching everything I do. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi

Thank you for your question.

Firefox is designed to help you manage your privacy and there are a number of features built into Firefox to help people to do that. If you have a read of this page (especially towards the bottom) you will see links and information around how to protect your privacy.

Even if you do all of this, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will still see your internet traffic. You could use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to provide further protection but the use of a VPN may be seen by your ISP. Setting up a VPN is a bit more complex and is something I would not know how to do.

I hope that this information is useful. Ultimately, there are measures you can take in Firefox that will help, but the other part of this is government legislation in your jurisdiction.

I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.
