When I select a new tab I can no longer enter an URL. I type it in and hit enter and Firefox erases it instead of going to the site. I can only pick from the drop down list or from an icon on the toolbar.

Also when I selected Google from my toolbar and started to type, a drop down list appeared blocking my view of what I was typing.

I am using Version 40.0.3 and Windows 10.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
