Unable to access Google on Firefox but no option to add exemption

more options

I've been having great difficulty trying to access Google following the installation of Windows 10. This problem only applies to Mozilla, which is my preferred browser. When I type Google into the address bar it says that it is not a trusted site and comes up with the error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer; there is no option to add an exemption. I have tried everything, the most promising forum was https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1060376 but unfortunately as I use McAfee instead of Kaspersky I could not locate the certificate. Please help.

Thank you guys for all your help! I got it to work again by restoring my computer to before a few updates (I was having issues with my keyboard as well) and then a message popped up about how my activity was being reported to my MS family so I just removed myself from the family and Google started working on Mozilla again! So thank you philipp you were spot on finding the problem!

hi mozillauser95, does this happen in an account that is restricted by ms family safety settings? this would result in ms intercepting secure connections to some common sites like google, facebook, youtube and others. for this to work in firefox, you'd first have to install the certificate of ms family safety into the browser's trust store. click on this link, check the box to Trust this CA to identify web sites & confirm the change.

No there are no child restrictions as far as I'm aware. I tried the link you sent and it just came up with "Error: TinyURL redirects to a TinyURL." - that's in Mozilla and Chrome. Is there another way?

sorry that this didn't work - this wasn't a tradtional link but should have opened a certificate installation window in your browser. alternatively you could have tried the manual steps described at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2965142 in the section about firefox.

if you don't want to use that ms family feature anyway, please doublecheck that you have turned it off for your account: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/turn-off-microsoft-family-settings

Have you tried disabling any McAfee add-ons? You can open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. I would set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, on the right side, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions, and disable anything from McAfee.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any difference?
