Tried all suggested fixes and Firefox 37.0.2 still using "significant energy"on macbook air

Hello, I've noticed very recently that the battery on my macbook air (2013) drains very rapidly. It seems that I can only use it without pluggin it in for half the time I used to use it - and I mean within the last week. In the upper corner where the battery percentage is shown, I get the message under "Apps using significant energy" that Firefox is guilty of high consumption. I have tried all of the fixes in mozilla support and some from websites and nothing changes the outcome of the rapid battery drain. I checked plug-ins, closed and re-started, I don't know what else. Many sites recommend switching to Safari, but all of my bookmarks, etc. are saved on Firefox and I don't want to make a switch. Can someone please help me?

Thanks.
