FF crashes repeatedly. Have started in safe mode. What's the next step?

more options

FF is tring to restore session when starting. There is usually not enough time to do anything before it crashes again.

If I'm given a few seconds extra I might be able to load another page but it will then crash just the same.

I have succesfully opened FF in safe mode (I'm writing this from safe mode) but I don't know what the next step should be.

In my case I suspect two possible culprits:

1. FF OWN RESTORE SESSION. "Show my windows and tabs from last time". This have been put in the "Show my homepage" option by Safe Mode I assume, and I will let it stay there.

2. TAB MIX PLUS. I'm planning to delete this add-on as it has it's own restore manager that might have some broken start-up file or something.

What I want to know is this: After deleting TAB MIX PLUS should I close FF and restart it? And should I restart in safe mode again or a normal start?

I have a couple of other profiles that seems to work OK so I'm pretty sure this is the problem and nothing else outside the FF domain.

After deleting Tab Mix Plus, just restart Firefox normally. If everything works, you're back in business. If not, it could be another add-on or something else. In that case there are a few things you can do:

  1. Reset Firefox
  2. Test for other faulty extensions
  3. Get help fixing this crash

Tanks for the quick response, Michael.

I think the culprit was the extension StatusbarEX. This stopped working with the big 29 update, it sort of disappeared in the general makeover of toolbars, but it wasn't disabled as such.

After finding this out I uninstalled StatusbarEX, reinstalled Tab Mix Plus and started surfing. I have now surfed for 4-5 hours without problem and was just about to report back here when FF crashed again. I did not ask it restore the session and it started OK.

Not sure that I'm out of the woods just yet but this is what it stands at for the moment.

If you'd like, I can take a look at your recent crash reports and see if they turn up anything helpful. To do that:

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.

Yes, that would be great.

The full list is about 740 items long and dates back to July 15 2010.

The only ones starting with bp- are these four very old ones:

The ones dated today are these: the ones with time stamp 19:46 and 19:33 was during testing with and without extensions I guess. The 23:02 must be the one I had just before I posted here a second time.

I had quite a number of "false" starts today where FF was up for only a couple of seconds before crashing. I guess they don't register.
