Recently updated to firefox 4.0.2 when updating to windows 10 and since then any drop down menus disappear on firefox (and i think all other browsers too?). when i click on them they drop down for a couple seconds then disappear- this is for any of the menus. i looked on the forums and found one with a similar problem suggesting to use safe mode to remove any plugins and themes, and to uncheck the option to "Use hardware acceleration when available"- however this still hasn't made firefox work.

its rather frustrating not being able to use the toolbar and searchbar- anyone else have this problem or any suggestions?

I'm trying to get the picture here. For example, is this what you mean:

  • You have the classic menu bar displayed, you click a menu but then it closes itself shortly thereafter?
  • You start typing into Firefox's address bar and the autocomplete suggestion list drops down to match what you're typing, but then after you stop typing it disappears on its own even though there still are matching suggestions? Then the text you typed clears and the page address redisplays in the bar.
  • You start typing into Firefox's search bar and the panel of search choices and/or suggestions appears, but then after you stop typing it disappears on its own? The search text you typed stays in the bar.

These would all be what would happen if you had pressed the Esc key on the keyboard once (or in the address bar case where the address reappears, twice).

Since you mentioned that this happens in other applications as well, I wonder whether there is some malfunction in your keyboard, or a driver incompatibility between your keyboard and Windows 10. I'm not the best person (and this is not the best site) to address that type of issue...

But occasionally we see that temporary or intermittent "stuck" key situations can be addressed by one or more of the following:

  • Tapping that key several times to resolve any confusion of Windows about whether it is up or down, or sometimes to break electrical connections in the keyboard
  • Shutting down and restarting Windows
  • For battery-powered keyboards, changing the batteries

hey jscher2000- yes, you are correct that when i click the toolbar, is disappears shortly after as though esc has been pressed, but it is more that the drop down just doesnt stay open long enough. all the drivers have been updated and worked fine before the last windows 10 update- so i am wondering if it is a windows 10 bug of some kind?

any suggestions on other forums which may be of use?

Thankyou

Here's one that has been around through many versions of Windows:

update: for anyone else having this problem, with the "accelerate hardware" unchecked, uninstall java and reinstall- mine seems to have been a java update problem clashing with plugins, which has fixed, it seems for now anyway.
