Firefox settings changed auomatically , Why?

more options

I left my computer on and went away for a few seconds and when I came back it was shut off and I had to on it back. I didn't take much note of it and went on working. That was yesterday. Today when I started the computer and then Firefox, I found that my settings changed regarding the starting point from "Show my Windows and tabs from last time" to "Show my Home Page" and further when I typed "firefox automatically reset" in the address bar to find out what these changes in settings meant I was surprised to see results given by https://www.google.co.jp and at the top right of the results page there included a options button which included several and where one included something like " display results in english".

A few minutes a ago I watched a YouTube video and the ads that come during a video are in Japanese

Why would have these changes taken Place without my knowing?

That is odd. Did Windows start normally, it didn't mention a severe crash?

Did Firefox perform a Refresh? The tell-tale sign usually is an Old Firefox Data folder on the Windows desktop. Do you have that folder? If so, there is a process you can use to resurrect those settings. For example (written for Windows 7): https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1069219#answer-762489

Firefox 40, which is due out in less than two weeks, will contain numerous compatibility fixes for Windows 10. Hopefully Firefox 40 will be less quirky on your new OS than Firefox 39.

Since you seems to be an "early adopter" type person, do you want to try Firefox 40 in its final two weeks of testing?

Note: Some extensions may not be compatible with Firefox 40, especially security suite toolbars that tend to upgrade simultaneously with or shortly after Firefox releases.

The following process will not remove your settings; do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a full installer for Firefox 40 "beta" from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/beta/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

Note: to retain use of your installed plugins, I suggest the 32-bit version.

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement after this install?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

When the release version of Firefox 40 becomes available (estimated August 11th), I suggest installing that one because beta will auto-update to Firefox 41 shortly thereafter and unless you like testing software, that might be a little more adventure than you're looking for.

Did Windows start normally?

Yes Windows started normally, But in the first place I didn't shutdown the machine, why did that take place?

How did the results appear in Japanese? Why did the starting point change from "Show my Windows and tabs from last time" to "Show my Home Page"

Why does the ads in a Youtube video appear in Japanese, I think, I am not sure it is Chinese or Japanese or whatever .....

I want to know whether there has been a security breach and if not what? Few days a ago I had a malware attack and I had to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to clear the machine?
