I'm using Thunderbird on Mac and Linux (60.2.1) and my issue happens on both of them. I have an IMAP account configured against my outlook.com account. When using Thunderbird, I noticed that a couple messages hadn't been sent recently (because they weren't in the sent folder) and discovered that they were instead sitting in an "Outbox" folder in the folder structure of the IMAP account (not the Outbox folder in Thunderbird's Local Folders) in Thunderbird.

If I try to delete one of the messages in the outbox folder, it reappears in a second. So, I can't delete them. When I open up outlook.com, there is no Outbox folder to be seen. When I connect Outlook 365 on Windows to outlook.com, there is an Outbox folder but it's empty. I've tried removing the Outbox and Outbox.msf files on the file system where my Thunderbird profile is (after Thunderbird is closed, of course) and restarting Thunderbird and the folders just show up again. I've also tried "repairing" the outbox folder in Thunderbird but the messages flicker and are right back again. I've also tried removing the outbox folder in Thunderbird but I get an error message that system folders can't be renamed.

How do I fix this Outbox issue with messages that can't be removed?

Starting with the New Year I decided to try a new approach and use Tags instead of folders to manage my mail. Now adding a tag works fine and I can search for it just fine.

The problem is as follows: 1. Add a tag to a message 2. Press A to archive the message 3. Check the message in the archive folder 4. Notice that the tag is gone and has to be re-added

When I drag and drop the message with the mouse, the tag stays as it is.

Should I consider this a bug or is this by design?

I have found that Windows Defender, for better or worse, does not play well with Thunder 64.3 and later and often causing freezing and glitches while using Thunderbird. I then found that users can add exclusion folders to Windows Defender, but when trying to explore the directories to get to my profile, Windows Defender cannot see the relevant directories once I get to C/Users/<Username> - I'm not sure how to add the directory in an attempt to isolate the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a 'standard' email which I use to send to new LinkedIn connections.

It's pretty standard text (just a few lines of text in fact), with just my html signature (very small in size) and a pdf attachment (which is 14.9MB big).

(my Hosting Server allows me to send much larger email attachments than that, I think 50-100Mb if I remember correctly).

However, four things happen when I press send;

1) I get a warning message asking me to confirm that I do indeed wish to send such a large attachment.

2) The warning message mis-reports the size of the attachment (it'll claim it to be 20.3Mb in size the very first email I send, when in fact, as mentioned above, it is only 14.9MB).

3) Then, each new email I then Choose to create via "Edit as New Message", the Warning Message appears and mis-reports again the size of the same 14.9MB attachment only this time as even larger than before, eg 25MB. This carries on for each new email being created and sent this way, with warnings of 28Mb, 35Mb etc etc attachments etc time......

4) With each new email I'm about to send, the delay between hitting Send and for that Confirmation Warning Dialog box to appear gets longer and longer until it is almost unbearably long (unworkably so)......

I have a very powerful computer, plenty of 'fastest' components, and have been a Thunderbird user from pretty much the very beginning.

Please can someone advise - as I cannot continue like this.

Hi, Live in NY, and have time warner/spectrum. Use mozilla on a PC. In Florida can get and send emails using web based mail, however thru mozilla thunderbird can only receive emails. Outgoing mail all times out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

After both updates to Thunderbird and Windows 10 Thunderbird crashes immediately upon launching. I do mean I cant get past trying to launch it!. I get a Windows 10 blue screen with the message "IRQL not less or equal". I have to shut down and restart the computer each time. I figured out how to get into safe mode and Thunderbird works just fine there. Really like Thunderbird and have used for years and have never had this happen. I have no other problems with anything else except this issue as a result of the Windows and Thunderbird updates. I don't which of the two is causing the crash? I disable all the add ons while in safe mode and made them permanent but this had no effect. I was going to uninstall and reinstall but I don't with if this will destroy all my many important folders which are very important to me.

I get the following error for some emails: An error occurred during a connection to www.xxxx.com:443 Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm (s) (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)

Could anyone offer a tip on how to remedy this?

After upgrading from Fedora 21 to Fedora 29, I cannot update my Thunderbird address book. I have tried disabling add-ons and deleting the abook.mab file, but I still cannot add a new entry using the pop-up GUI even to an empty address book. I can add a new entry by right-clicking an existing email address, and I can delete entries, but the "OK" button in the GUI does not work. Other users on my system do not have the same problem so something appears to be corrupted in my account. When I use the developer_toolbox then I open the address book I get these:

I am using IMAP. AT&T (Yahoo) is my ISP. I just recently changed my password, not sure if that is causing problems. I am using Windows 7.

After composing an email, I try to send it. What I get is a popup saying Login to Server failed. See the uploaded image. The popup has three choices: Retry, Enter New Password, Cancel. When I click either Retry or Enter New Password, the popup just reappears, no matter how many times I click on Retry or Enter New Password. If I click on Cancel, the sendmail completes by making a copy of the email and putting it in my Sent folder.

Suggestions?

I am running Windows 10 and Thunderbird version 60.3.3

I recently ran into problems where it looked like Thunderbird was starting up brand new with no accounts, no local folders etc. I followed directions and found the problem was with the prefs.js file that was missing some lines. I was able to find a recent backup that was only a few days old, and I copied that version of prefs.js into the profile folder. This recovered my account access along with the local folders and personal folders - or so I thought.

However today I noticed that one subfolder and its subfolders were not in the folder structure on the left side when Thunderbird is opened. Again I followed directions, went to help / troubleshooting information and clicked on "Open folder" I keep this folder on a secondary hard disk because it is huge (about 10 Gb). I closed Thunderbird and checked this folder: F:\Thunderbird_Profile\Mail\Local Folders\Personal Folders.sbd The email folder I want is in personal folders / SEA / Substitutes and it has many subfolders and a couple of levels. In Personal Folders.spd there are folders SEA.mozmsgs and SEA.sbd. SEA.mozmsgs appears to contain email files. SEA.sbd appears to contain the folder structure with emails for subfolders. This includes subfolders Substitutes.spd and Substitutes.mozmsgs Within Substitutes.spd there appears to be the correct folder structure.

Yet these folders do not show up when I run Thunderbird. I also noticed that recent emails (probably several hundred) in the Substitutes.mozmsgs appear to be missing

If this happened to the Substitutes subfolder, maybe it happened to other subfolders too that I haven't accessed recently. Without looking at every single branch on the folder structure I'd like to know if there's a way to do some sort of systematic repair.

The default for both composition and display of messages is Times 18. However, the display is showing up as a san-serif font in the Sent folder, etc both on the server and on the Mac. The composition font is correct.

I am looking for any suggestions on things that I can do to solve this and get the display font back to a Serif (Times) font. I have 30,000 emails that all just switched several days ago.

Unfortunately the forum won't let me upload the screenshots. I have tried both as a png and a jpeg in the Add images section/Browse. The wheel just keeps spinning.

When I click "Reply" or "Forward" either with a message opened or in the mailbox list, nothing happens. It was working fine until I updated. I can send messages, just not reply or forward.

Hi everyone,

I am trying to fix a crash issue for my neighbours TB installation. Everytime (at least that's what I was able to reproduce) he fetches new mails from his accounts, TB crashes. After restarting it, new mail is available.

First thing I did was to update to latest "release" 60.4.0. Afterwards I tried in safe mode with disabled extensions.

As I am pretty much unaware of Thunderbird I am not really sure what to check in this case

It was created with the older version as I just sent it via mail and the recent crash report went missing somewhere between two floors. I will update the thread as soon as I have the link for the new one. Nevertheless the symptoms are the same.

Do I have to revert to an earlier version to get Lightning back? What version?

my thunderbird upgraded to version 60.3.3 (32bit) at that time, I can't change my address book. automatic collecting email works well. when I open address book and change or add some information, It isn't saved. it looks saved. but when I re-open address book I found It is not saved.

I've recently upgraded to Thunderbird 60.3.3 Now if I detach an attachment from an email the confirmation window pops up on the very bottom of of the thunderbird window and is almost hidden - see screendump. After I resize the thunderbird window the confirmation window jumps to somewhere in the middle. This doesn't happen every time I detach an attachment. Maybe after I once resized thunderbird window the pop up is no more hidden even if I change the size back. I use thunderbird on macOS 10.14.2 (18C54)
