I am unable to download powerpoint presentations from online site?

Rather than downloading file as .ppt it downloads it as an octet stream file. I am forced to use the "open with" and of course powerpoint is not listed so I am forced to browse through my c drive to find the program. It will then open the ppt file and I can manually save it. Is there a patch for this or can I just download the previous version of Firefox.
