After deleting all emails from a sender, their email address is still appearing in the search box. For example if I delete all emails from rubbish@rubbish.com the email address is showing as soon as I enter "rubb" in the search box I want to delete this address but don't know where it is stored All help appreciated

The search box is populated from the address book, not you message store. I would guess they will be in your collected addresses address book as that is where Thunderbird places new email addresses you correspond with that are not already in your address book.

Thanks Matt The email addresses do not appear when I search "All contacts" (nor if I seach each of the address books separately) So I conclude that they are not in the address books any further suggestions please?

First make sure you have compacted all folders that had emails from that sender. Right click on folder and select Properties click on 'Repair Folder'. Click on 'OK'

Also - Maybe the global search needs rebuilding as it may still contain some references.
