Not for the first time, I suddenly cannot download any files in firefox (from PDFs to wetransfer links etc.). I have followed every bit of online advice there is. In troubleshoot mode I can download files. However by a process of elimination it is not caused by hardware acceleration, addons or extensions or my avast antivirus. This is really troublesome and I really need to download a lot for work. Performing a refresh every couple of weeks is not the solution.

I should also add I have a laptop with Firefox and this problem never occurs.

You need to show what happens when you try to download.

The page reload icon briefly displays a refresh. That's it, nothing else happens.

Same issue in Firefox Safe Mode?

In safe mode I can download...

While in Safe Mode, you'll need to re-enable your add-ons one by one to see which one is causing the issue. This appears to be an add-on issue.

The only add-on I have is an ad block. Even with that disabled, the problem still exists.

Interesting... Safe mode no issue. The only add-on is ad block.

Where did you get Firefox from?

The US Firefox site.

How about Windows in Safe Mode? You should also update to 96.0.2.

In normal windows mode, have you disabled Avast to see if Firefox works?

I cannot download with Avast disabled.

So no more advice? This is an infuriating problem that refuses to go away.

I'm currently having an issue downloading files from Google Drive and noticed that if ETP is turned off the site works. Try turning it off on your site of interest. see screenshot.

Just as a test... Fire up Windows Sandbox if you have Win10 Pro and see if you have issues in there.
