Why don't some "buttons" (hotlinks) from commercial sources work in my IMAP Earthlink email?

In emails from commercial entities like Publisher's Clearing House, various magazines, etc., the buttons simply don't work. Nothing happens when I click on them, and I don't get any error messages. I have Earthlink IMAP email. The buttons used to work, but now they don't. I have contacted a couple of them for assistance, and they have no clue.
